📖 Summary (English)
The story begins with a group of people talking late at night. One of them, a doctor, narrates a frightening but amusing incident from his youth. At that time, he was a newly qualified doctor, unmarried, and lived alone in a small rented room. The room was poorly furnished, had no electricity, and was infested with rats.
One hot summer night, after dinner, he lit a kerosene lamp and sat on a chair in front of a mirror. While thinking about improving his looks, he admired himself in the mirror and dreamed of marrying a rich and fat lady doctor so that she would not run away if he ever made a mistake.
Suddenly, he heard a dull thud. Before he could react, a snake had wriggled over his shoulder and coiled around his left arm. Its hood was just a few inches away from his face. The doctor froze with fear. He realized how powerless and vain he had been while admiring himself.
The snake then turned its attention towards the mirror and looked at its reflection, as if admiring itself. Seizing this chance, the doctor quietly got up and ran out of the house. Later, when he returned with his friends, he found that the room had been looted, but the snake was gone.
This incident taught the doctor an important lesson about the fragility of human life, the futility of pride, and how quickly circumstances can change. The story blends humor, irony, and suspense in a unique way.

कहानी की शुरुआत रात में बातचीत कर रहे लोगों से होती है। उनमें से एक डॉक्टर अपने साथ घटी एक रोमांचक घटना सुनाता है। उस समय वह नया-नया डॉक्टर बना था, अविवाहित था और एक छोटे किराए के कमरे में रहता था। कमरा साधारण था, उसमें बिजली नहीं थी और वहाँ चूहे बहुत थे।
एक गर्मी की रात, वह खाना खाकर केरोसिन की बत्ती जलाकर आईने के सामने बैठा। आईने में स्वयं को देखकर वह अपनी सुंदरता के बारे में सोचने लगा और सपने देखने लगा कि वह एक मोटी और अमीर डॉक्टरनी से विवाह करेगा ताकि अगर वह कभी गलती करे तो पत्नी भाग न सके।
अचानक उसे आवाज सुनाई दी और तभी एक साँप उसके कंधे पर आकर बैठ गया और उसकी बाँह पर लिपट गया। उसका फन डॉक्टर के चेहरे के बहुत पास था। डॉक्टर भय से जड़ हो गया। उसे अपने अहंकार और घमंड की मूर्खता का एहसास हुआ।
फिर साँप ने अपना ध्यान आईने की ओर मोड़ा और मानो स्वयं को देखने लगा। डॉक्टर ने मौका पाकर धीरे-धीरे उठकर घर से बाहर भाग लिया। जब वह अपने मित्रों के साथ वापस आया तो देखा कि उसका कमरा लूट लिया गया था लेकिन साँप गायब हो चुका था।
इस घटना ने डॉक्टर को सिखाया कि जीवन कितना नाजुक है, घमंड व्यर्थ है और परिस्थितियाँ पलभर में बदल सकती हैं। कहानी में हास्य, व्यंग्य और रोमांच का सुंदर मिश्रण है।
