The Thief’s Story by Ruskin Bond is a touching tale that highlights the transformative power of trust and kindness. The narrator of the story is a 15-year-old thief who frequently changes his name to avoid the police and his former employers. At the beginning of the story, he introduces himself as “Hari Singh.”
Hari meets Anil, a simple and kind-hearted writer, and flatters him in hopes of gaining his trust and robbing him eventually. Anil is not wealthy, but he agrees to let Hari stay with him and even offers to teach him how to read, write, and cook.
