“The Little Girl” is a touching story about a young girl named Kezia who is afraid of her strict and unapproachable father. Kezia’s family included her father, mother, and her loving grandmother, who understood her feelings. Her father’s routine was rigid. Every morning before office, he would give a quick kiss and leave. In the evening, he would return tired and demand tea, the newspaper, and his slippers. On Sundays, he would rest on the sofa and stretch out, reading the newspaper.
Her grandmother encouraged Kezia to understand her father better by asking her to talk to him and prepare a surprise birthday gift. To please her father, Kezia stitched a pin-cushion using a beautiful piece of cloth. But unknowingly, she stuffed it with important papers belonging to her father. This effort to please her father resulted in his anger, and he punished her, making her fear him even more.
One day, Kezia saw her neighbour, Mr. Macdonald, playing joyfully with his children. He was a kind, fun-loving father, very different from her own. She realized that there are different kinds of fathers.
Later, when her mother fell ill and Kezia had to stay alone with her father, she had a nightmare. Her father comforted her by taking her in his arms and letting her sleep next to him. She felt the warmth of his heart and understood that he was a tired man who worked hard and needed rest and care, too. From that moment, Kezia began to see her father as a human being who needed sympathy, not fear.

(i) ऑफिस जाने से पहले वह केवल एक kiss देते और चले जाते।
(ii) ऑफिस से लौटकर थके हुए होते, चाय और चप्पल की माँग करते और अख़बार पढ़ते।
(iii) रविवार को वे सोफ़े पर लेटकर आराम करते और अख़बार पढ़ते।
दादी ने केज़िया को उसके पिता के करीब लाने की कोशिश की, जैसे कि जन्मदिन पर उपहार देने के लिए कुछ बनाने को कहा। केज़िया ने अपने पिता के लिए एक सुंदर पिन-कुशन बनाया और उसमें कपड़े भरने के लिए गलती से उनके ज़रूरी कागज़ फाड़कर भर दिए। इससे पिता बहुत नाराज़ हुए, और उसे सज़ा दी, जिससे वह और डरने लगी।
एक दिन केज़िया ने अपने पड़ोसी मिस्टर मैकडोनाल्ड को अपने बच्चों के साथ खेलते हुए देखा। वह एक मिलनसार और हँसमुख पिता थे, और उसके पिता से बिल्कुल अलग। तब उसे समझ आया कि पिता भी अलग-अलग तरह के हो सकते हैं।
