One day, a swallow stops by the statue to rest on its journey to Egypt. The Prince persuades the bird to delay his travel and help distribute the riches from his statue to the poor. The swallow plucks the ruby, sapphires, and gold leaf from the statue and gives them to those in need—a poor seamstress, a hungry boy, and others suffering in the city.
As winter approaches, the swallow grows weaker due to the cold but continues helping the prince. Eventually, he dies at the statue’s feet.
