Answer
The following three factors are responsible for the fear of smaller South Asian countries:
- India’s Large Size and Strong Economy:
India is the largest country in South Asia in terms of area, population, economy, and military strength. Smaller countries fear that India may dominate regional affairs. - India’s Influence in the Internal Affairs of Neighbouring Countries:
At times, India’s involvement in the political or security matters of neighbouring countries has created the impression that it seeks to influence their internal affairs. - Unequal Power and Resources:
The wide gap in economic, military, and political power between India and its neighbours makes smaller countries concerned about losing their independence and equal status.
